Botox

Botox

Botox is an injectable medication that is targeted at specific facial muscles. It works by weakening these muscles and removing the cause of wrinkling. Botox tends to work very quickly (within 1-7 days) and should last 3-4 months. Injections are recommended to be repeated for lasting effects.

Botox can be used also for hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating, although again it does require repeated injections. In this situation botox can be prescribed and may be covered by your private insurance.

Risks include bruising, temporary ptosis or drooping of the eyelids, temporary double vision (from weakening of eye muscles).
